I am new to this program. Are the Market Reversal exits just there as a starting point for backtesting strategies? I tried following them in Lab mode and they don't show up on the exact bar. The Reversal Strategy, for example, can have a good backtest equity curve but how do I replicate that in real trading?

Hi, DaveyJoe

Welcome to Nirvana-land!

MR exits have been dis-cussed extensively in Nirvana forums. I suggest you do a "search" for "Market Reversal" without limiting the date, on all N forums that you have access to.

Nutshell:

1. NEVER EVER use MR exits in any Strategy that you make live for trading at the HRE ... they depend on hindsight and will not work the same way with live trading as they "appear" to work on the historical-simulation voteline.

2. MR exits should be used for ONE PURPOSE ONLY, and then, with care. They offer "theoretically ideal" exit points, based on hindsight-identification of pivot-point bars. Their usefulness lies in TESTING alternative Entry and/or Filter rules ... the statistical results allow you to compare alternatives for Entry &/or Filter methods with "minimal" influence from Exit methods. They will show unrealistically profitable results, btw ... but that's OK as long as you are just comparing method A to B to C and not expecting that performance to be indicative of real-life trading.

3. Some/many Nirvana canned strategies use MR exits. Be sure to check, and revise before trading.

There's also some discussion about this available on the TradeTight.org forum, if you're interested ... but probably more about this topic on the N forums.

Ok. Thanks. I was getting a little excited there after seeing the backtested equity curves looking so good. Understood.

Hi DaveyJoe,
I note you are new to the program and so I thought that I would mention this.

What I am sure you would find most helpful is if you can purchase (if it is still available) the Omni Trader course OTU 206 titled Automating Trade Management with Trade Plans. I have it in CD form plus I can access the actual webinars which were held.

Speak to support.
