Can anyone please advise on Real Time test settings? I was wondering if
the ANALYSIS SETTINGS 1-" Run Analysis on Forming Bars" or 2- " Run Analysis 30 seconds Prior Bar Completion" should be checked at all.?
If it is checked what does it accomplish and or add to your advantage?
OT 2007 Real Edition; trading E-MINIs .
thanks

Jim,
I tick OFF both settings, as I use tight stops in forex market and I hate to be stopped prematurely.
I understand that if you leave it on, OT will warn you (sooner) of forming signals, but unfortunately in the process may stop you out of the trade too quickly as well.
generally, the smaller the timeframe you trade the more noise you will have. so it may be perfectly fime to leave it on on daily charts. I wouldn't dare on 5-min forex.
Unfortunately I cannot give you eMini answer, as I don't trade it.
Cheers, Kris

I am trying to understand and evaluate the event timing and settings for using a real-time profile. Reviewing several posts, it appears that analysis is being repeatedly run as data is updated and by watching the "Current Process" status window, I can see that analysis for all voted timeframes is occurring frequently. [Edit: I realized that perhaps because I had 1, 2 & 5 min timeframes in use that this may have caused my 5 min timeframe to appear to run analysis far more often than if it was the only timeframe in use.]
So my first question is what purpose do the checkboxes for "Run Analysis on Forming Bars x times/interval for intraday" and "Run Analysis x Seconds Prior to Bar Completion" serve? I tried checking the latter with a 10-second interval and didn't note a change in the behavior of analysis using a 5 min timeframe for experimenting. [Edit: see comment above. After turning off lower timeframes, I'm still not sure when and how often analysis runs.] Do these options add to any normal periodic analysis or were they meant to replace the normal analysis cycle?
It looks like there are two ways to trade RT: 1. use a Forming signal and buy BOO or 2. use a New signal and buy Market. The first way risks that the Forming signal disappears before the bar closes. The second adds some delay in placing the trade due to analysis time or infrequent price prints. The goal is to be able to mirror the voteline and portsim trades and know that actual trading will look similar to our backtest trades.
So my second question relates to trading forming signals. If analysis is running repeatedly during the bar, it is possible for the signal to appear and disappear over that period. Given a TP with an initial buy using BOO, when is the trade locked in with the TP? i.e. if the first analysis during the bar generates a forming signal and the last analysis that runs prior to bar end sees the signal as absent, will the trade proceed based on the initial presence of the signal or will the last analysis cancel the pending BOO trade?
