It seems to me when trading a real time chart it would be a nice addition to the chart window to have a small count down timer visible and continuously running round so that one could see the remaining duration of the forming bar's life span until it fixes. This would automatically adjust to sync with the time frame when it is selected.

Open Chart Options -> Statistics tab. Enable the last statistic in the list - "Time until bar completes."

You live and learn thanks guys. I just activated it in my chart and note that although the market is closed NYSE (now 6 pm east coast) but it says Bar Ends 15:35:43 Could it be that the limit shut down on Wall street has affected it?

No, that's just how it shows when the market is closed.
