In an EOD profile with 33 IQ futures symbols, all continuous contracts which has been running flawlessly, adding one additional symbol (a monthly contract) causes OT to freeze and hang.

Log file attached.

Part Deux: Doing repeated experimenting with new profiles it appears that having a tick data period was causing the problem. I thought NTB data periods could be used in an EOD profile.

I need a big red flashing neon sign telling me what I can and can't do for data periods in RT and EOD profiles <:)

Subject : IQ Futures crashing OT problem found - NOT SOLVED

After many new profiles and tracing what causes a perfectly good futures profile to go bad I would like you to assess the problem I believe I see.

The precursor to the OT crash is seeing the status bar stuck in a loop downloading and analyzing on one symbol. I also watch the .dat files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Nirvana\data\Futures\M1 and notice there are no new files when new symbols are added.
In a new profile with new symbols I could see the .dat files propagate until there were as many .dat files as I had symbols.

What killed it was to add additional periods to a data period - to 1250 from 500 on daily for example.

Post haste would be appreciated<:)

The stability of my FX and futures profiles appears to be related to the sequence of setting up a new profile in terms of data periods, history, strategies and other settings, before loading an data.

Once all of those parameters are set I then add symbols to the focus list and download and test. So far this seems to be key. The failure of a profile and the crashing of OT seems to be related to adding a new data period or extending the time for an existing data period in a running profile. This usually results in the que showing an unending loop of a symbol being downloaded and tested and finally a hang of the platform and sometimes a message of winsock timeout.

Is this possible or am I running on fumes at the moment?

So much for that theory. IQ FX EOD profile just failed.

A possible solution: I have created a nearly identical profile to the futures EOD in an RT profile.

I turn off the real time processing and have static charts similar to EOD. When I add a symbol I turn the processing back on until the downloading and analysis is done. So far this has been stable and crash free.

Wheee! What could go wrong, go wrong, go wrong?

Comments would be appreciated.

For anyone following this thread the solution to all of the problems I was having with an EOD profile is to use an RT profile. To avoid the constant updating I just shut off the processing with the wave symbol in the status line and turn it on whenever I need to up date.

I have been running this profile with 66 symbols, 8 chart tabs with 3 charts each and strategies applied for 24 hours without a problem.
