Hello, Interactive Brokers traders
Have any of you configured a "Friends & Family" master/advisor account at IB to manage multiple "client" accounts (e.g. your IRA, spouse's IRA, trading entity, etc.)?
Have you connected OT to TWS through the master/advisor account to trade in one of the "client" accounts?
I've tried this. When I connect OT to TWS, I briefly see the positions (evidenced by the up/down arrows in the "Pos" Focus List column), but then they disappear. There isn't any way (that I can find) in OT to choose which account to display current positions. (For those who do not use IB, the "Portfolio" function is not enabled when connected to IB.) When you place an order, there is a dropdown to choose which account to place the order. So, there is account information (at least the account #) flowing back from TWS to OT. But, I have been unable to figure out how to display current positions in OT (other than the brief glimpse as OT is connecting to TWS).
Thanks for any advice on what configuration option I'm not finding.
By the way, when I connected directly to the client account (rather than through the master account) I was able to see the positions in OT. I've re-enabled the client account for trading, so I can fallback to connecting directly to the client account, if necessary. But, I'd rather access the client account through the master account, if that is possible.

I previously reported that the "Pos" (positions) column in the Focus List briefly showed the positions and then nothing. I've since found that by "deselecting" the trading account in TWS, and then again "selecting" the account in TWS causes the positions to show in the OT Focus List "Pos" column.
BUT, there are no "trade plan" chevrons shown on the right side of the charts for symbols with positions, so the trade cannot be managed from within OT.
Anyone have any Interactive Brokers TWS configuration advice?
Thanks

Well this is a limitation in OT, as IB will not lift a finger to help resolve the issue. Basically, you cannot manage sub accounts via OT/VT through the advisor login. (FYI: a true fix would require Nirvana to overhaul the brokerage module...and that is probably [and understandably] low on the todo list.)
One thing I have done in the past, is to run more than one instance of TWS - where each instance is logged in using the sub-account credentials (i.e not as the advisor). Granted this is clunky, and well, it sucks. But it did work. So if you are only interested in a small number of sub-accounts, that "may" be an option.
That said, I have not tested this configuration for quite some time...so I cannot say whether that workaround is still viable. As recalled, I had to use a different port number for each instance (in the TWS setup area) and then I had to let OT/VT know this info as well.

That's what I have kind of figured out, but was hoping someone may have found a way to make it work.
Thanks for the feedback.

Steve
