i'm trying to run strategy wizard. The problem i have is that after running that wizard, it always returns "0" in every section of the results. I have confirmed that: 1. a data period is selected 2. a strategy is selected and for the time frame i'm testing. 3. a fixed forward and back test period is selected. It will run, and look like it's doing something, but the end results are just 0. when i look into the vote line before running SW, it will show proper voting at the bottom of OT. I have even tried different strategies to see if that was the issue. Does anyone have any ideas on what i maybe missing? Thanks, Shawn

I am seeing the same as Shawn trying to use strategy wizard today: 1. Using OT2012 Pro RT with a RT profile with the same profile and settings as used previously. 2. Think the problem arose subsequent to PR 2K (I always do the PR’s as soon as posted) and I have notes from a run I did 5/12/2012. At that time the program updated as expected.

Are you seeing the issue in EOD or Test profiles?

I have just tested strategy wizard using an EOD profile. It is updating normally. It appears that, at least for me, the issue is limited to a Real Time profile. I do not use the Test profile. adm

I would recommend using SW with Test profiles if you're going to use intraday timeframes.

i use real time profiles. I will switch to a Test profile and see if that makes a difference. i followed the instruction in the video, to "just copy" a profile i want to duplicate, then use SW on the copied version. I suppose i really just copied a RT profile. I'll try it, and see what happens. thx, shawn

i have created a new "test" profile, and tried with a few different strategies...and i still have the same issue with the SW results reflecting "0" in very result column. can you confirm you have no issues on your end barry? thanks! shawn

I do not get zeroes running SW in a Test Profile. So with OT closed, we would need these files to reproduce and/or figure out what the problem might be: 1. Strategywizard.otd (or the .otd file that you specifically named) in the C:\Program Files\Nirvana\OT2012\StrategyWizard folder. 2. Profile in the C:\Program Files\Nirvana\OT2012\Profiles folder. 3. Strategy in the C:\Program Files\Nirvana\OT2012\Strategies folder. 4. If the strategy contains any VBA indicators, systems, or stops. They are in the C:\Program Files\Nirvana\OT2012\VBA folder in subfolders. Compress them into a zipped file & attach it here or email. Or if it's too big you can use a site like http://www.yousendit.com

Barry: I have been using Strategy Wizard since it was fielded (2008?). However, I am not familiar with using a Test Profile. As stated earlier, I have used only the EOD and RT profiles. Would you consider emailing me the Test Profile you are using to test intraday, e.g. 15”, timeframes which does not produce zeros? I could use only the default strategies for starters to test on my setup. I do think Strategy Wizard is a very valuable tool and would like to be able to use it for intraday timeframes as well as EOD. Thanks . . . .

You can click File -> New & there is an option to select a Test Profile there. It allows you to set up intraday timeframes under Edit -> Data Periods. But instead of having streaming data, you run the ToDo List (like in EOD mode). It will download the intraday data through your realtime data feed & run your analysis.

It sounds like the bottom line is that Nirvana is recommending the use of a Test Profile for SW intraday testing. Although its not been stated as such, it appears that a RealTime intraday profile is not recommended. I know that using a TP will free up more processor time for SW to do its thing. There may be other reasons. So, I hope we can get some more info about Test Profile limitations. It might be useful for N to "officially" disallow SW operation with RealTime profiles, to help simplify matters. JMHO fwiw.

Barry: I have created a new Test Profile as you suggested for testing intraday timeframes, and it appears functional!! And, I agree with Jim Dean’s suggestion that N provide more info about using the Test Profile in lieu of a RT profile for SW intraday testing. Thanks . . . . |
