http://www.collective2.com

Collective2 is, in my opinion, the market leader.

They have been active for at least 6 years and now have about 800 trading systems and nearly $11 Billion annually traded using their systems! They offer automated trading on stocks, options, futures and forex. Have a look at their website and spend an hour trawling around and you'll understand.

I used Collective2 Gen3 technology which runs in the cloud when I played with diversifying into very short timeframes several years ago. Collective2 can be linked to more than a dozen brokers and I chose to link to an existing account I had at Options Xpress, approx. 1500 trades executed flawlessly, but poor system choice on my part and the cost of brokerage at Options Xpress was too high to make money on their short term trading systems offered at that time. However, they now also offer MB Trading and Interactive Brokers.

Collective2 allows CTA's or brokers to resell collective2 to their clients and they have setup a reseller program that also allows trades though other exchanges such as the ASX or LSE. The Gen3 cloud technology works really well, who needs a PC!

For system developers Collective2 is compatible with TradeStation, MetaTrader, NinjaTrader, IB's TWS, and others. System developers set fees and are paid by clients who use their system.

Collective2 weakness is the history of a system only goes back a couple of years, there is no validation of past system performance, collective2 doesn't produce systems they only resell them, and there is no simulation aggregation feature, plus not many people have heard of them.

Their strength is an excellent website (have a look at "System Finder" and "the Grid"), links to multiple system developers, brokers, and development platforms.

Their opportunity is to comprehensively lead the market by independently validating system performance and providing 10+ years history (or equivalent for shorter than daily timeframes), and to ramp up their marketing, and setup more resellers into target markets outside the US.

Collective2 has released a video marketing their product. I don't think it’s particularly brilliant, and fits with my previous thoughts about not many people not knowing about them (due to poor marketing).

In thinking more about this competitor the opportunity for OmniVest is that the OV strategies have been developed and tested by a company that does it for a living. As a result the strats loaded to OV generally have merit.

Collective2 has some strategies with merit, but there are a lot of strats that will lose a lot of money or have BIG drawdowns, you have to work through many strategies to find the wheat from the chaff.

With OV there is a lot of wheat to start with! Perhaps a marketing opportunity for OV!

Thanks for posting the video, John.

I think having access to a large # of Strategies with individual equity curves that can be combined into a single Trade Stream is a huge advantage over selecting a Strategy from a very large list. The application of Risk Controls on top of that provides an additional level of customization.

Yes Ed, I agree. I shake my head when I think that $11B can be traded through collective2, I know why you are so "hot" on getting OV into the market, you guys have an opportunity to remake this market space, and the OV members are working with you and your team to make the OV offering the absolute best. It's good for you and good for us and I really hope you succeed.

However, the best product doesn't always win, so after this product development phase I strongly believe there is a real need for OV to think more global, more marketing, more distribution.

Absolutely. Marketing is everything. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them. In fact, I think I will start a new Forum on this topic, so those who want to can help us think about ways to get this out into the marketplace. Of course, we've been in Beta for 1 month, and what is there now is a fraction of what we plan. More Risk Controls, Strategies, and Trading Vehicles (options) could put OmniVest into a solid lead position. But as you say, thinking globally and getting distribution are the things that will lead to success.

Someone posted two of the Omnivest strategies on Collective2:
http://www.collective2.com/cgi-perl/system77211839

Is this allowed? I mean reselling Omnivest strategies.

The OmniVest Strategy on Collective2 is ours. We built a server-to-server connection to transmit trades each day, similar to the Trade Processor process. The goal of our Collective2 integration was to generate an independent track record for marketing purposes. We will likely expand the program to post more Strategies using this server connection, but Strategy Signals will cost more at Collective2 than the same ones in OmniVest.

OK. Then it makes sense and good marketing/sales move. I noticed that the cost was higher. Thanks for the quick reply!
