While I haven't used OT2018 enough to comment on it's stability, I can say that OT2017 did have its stability issues on my machines. However, having enough memory (RAM) can go along way towards mitigating these issues for both OT and VT, IMO. I continue to marvel at the range of features in both products. When I consider the thought process and programing that has gone into both products, I am so impressed. Having said that, they do produce too many errors and have stability issues from time to time. At least on my machines. BUT, I am running on MAC PC's using Bootcamp to run Windows 10. I'm willing to concede this may cause some issues with OT/VT. Bottom line - Considering the frustrations I endure from tome to time, I would not even consider doing without either product. I would absolutely recommend you upgrade to OT2018.
