Support: In the past one could turn off the Data Maintenance process on OmniTrader's shutdown with impunity via TaskManager. I did so and now regret it as I cannot load any profile in 2011 obtaining the following error message: Worse yet, it has also effected the running of OT2010 as well. Is there something I can do to rectify the situation? Thanks, Tom Helget [Edited by EYEGUY on 12/9/2010 2:19 PM] ![]()

I had that happen, so I did a "repair", by using the original install file and it's back in action. Hope that helps.

Dave: Thanks, I'll give it a try. Running register.exe did nothing. Tom Helget

Dave: Unfortunately the solution you suggested did not work for me. Trying the repair on the original setup would not work since I had already installed pre-release 2A. Trying the 2A pre-release also did not work. Tom Helget

You could possibly try deleting the problem profile from the Profiles folder...

Dave: I can't open any of my profiles without the error message nor can I create a new profile successfully. Tom Helget

Tom, the error indicates your stocks.otd file is corrupt. This file is read by all OT versions on your machine & would cause Profiles not to work if it were bad. Close OT & any other Nirvana software. Make sure OmniDataMaintenance has stopped running in your Task Manager. Browse to the C:\Program Files\Nirvana\OmniData\US folder & rename the stocks.otd file to something else. I've attached a new install fresh copy of stocks.otd for you. It's compressed, so you'll need to unzip it. Then place it in that location. Right-click it & select Properties & make sure it isn't set to read only or that it needs to be 'Unblocked' (both in the Properties/General tab). Then open OT. When it asks to restore your OmniScans say yes. ![]()

Barry: Thanks. It would appear that trying to repair OmniData via Add or Remove Programs has completely deleted everything in my OmniData folder. I am considering two options. One is to copy the entire contents of an OmniData folder on another computer to the now deleted OmniData folder. The second is to download the OmniDataPackage.exe and start from scratch. Do you think the first option would work? Thanks, Tom Helget

Both options would work, Tom.

Barry: I chose Option 2, downloading OmnniDataPackage.exe. It takes a while to download and a while to set up, but when OmniTrader was re-invoked, I had the option of restoring my OmniScans (they are a bit different on the two machines). Amazingly and remarkably the restore process went off without a hitch and I am back in business. But, you might want to issue a warning about shutting down the OmniData Maintenance Process from Task Manager as this seemed to set off the whole nightmare. I realize that this is an old thread, but the issue remains important. If I leave OT inactive for a longer period period of time it sometimes (for whatever reason) takes a long time to shut down (seems like it's hogging resources). The OmniData Maintenance Process may take as much as 10 minutes to disappear from the Task Manager after OT itself has been shut down. Users unaware of this unfinished process may inadvertently go ahead and reboot the computer with all the problems that may couse... [Edited by John J on 4/9/2012 5:53 PM] |
