Hello all,

Is there a way to create a scan whereby you could see if say you're looking at a 5 min and 10 min and 15 min when all three close higher than their previous bar on the same bar ?

Thanking you in advance,
Gerry

Scans aren't run on intraday timeframes, so no. But you could have a strategy or color chart do that.

Barry - couldn’t Gerry use MarketScans for this? It’s been a while since I looked at it but IIRC, the user specs the timeframe that each filter rule is meant for.

MarketScans could be used, yes, if we're able to implement the MT & MTR functions. But MarketScans doesn't yet have that functionality & why I didn't mention it.

Hello Barry, Thanks for your input. As I will be turning 78 in October and left school after the eight grade to help the family I never got to learn about computer programming but over the years I have looked at tens of thousands of charts over many time frames and feel that if this could be done it would help many others trading stocks, etfs as well as currencies. I would like for this to be created not just for myself and others especially for my 23 year old grandson as part of my legacy to him. I would be eternally grateful if someone could take over control of my computer as this would definitely change the lives of many ! Thanks again for your inputs. Gerry Grenier

Gerry:

Maybe I don't understand what you want but I think using MarketScans you could sort of get what you wanted.

Attached is a scan for MarketScans asking to report those securities closing higher than their previous bars respectively in the 5-, 15- and 30-minute time frames. I couldn't do exactly what you asked as there is no 10-minute periodicity on MarketScans.

And, although it took a little time to write the scan and then capture a screen shot, I think this is essentially what you are asking for - note that my scan was done around 3:50 PM EST this afternoon with GLD being one of the securities returned:

Note that the cursor in the 5-minute time frame is referring to the 3:50 PM EST bar which has closed above the 3:45 PM EST bar.

If I have misunderstood your request I apologize.

Thar ya go. Thanks Tom. I didn’t have time to create it for Gerry. It doesn’t require MT or MTR.

Jim:

Now if you could only tell me how to shrink the image - I had to do a full screen shot to capture the cursor and I can't seem to shrink it with SnagIt.

Resize > Image, then type in percent. I do it all the time.

Jim:

Yeah, I finally got it - usually it is not a problem as I rarely do a full screen shot.

Thanks,

Gerry:

Great!

Please note that in my scan I used All Optionable U.S. Stocks as the starting population and chose only the top 30 of those returning the condition I sought. You may want something different and this is easily modifiable just like with OmniScan on OmniTrader and VisualTrader.

I hope it is what you were looking for.
