I attended the webinar and one question I wanted to get answered was how the 2 and 3 standard deviation systems ever got triggered. Since price first has to penetrate the 1st StDev, it would seem you would get a signal at that point every time. I asked the question if a system was triggered by the low crossing the StDev line, but the close above and the answer was no. So I don't see how you get a signal for crossing the 2nd StDev without already getting a signal after crossing the 1st. Yet I see examples where the 1st line appears to be crossed and a couple bars later the second line is crossed, generating a signal. Anyone who has loaded ITM2 able to answer this?

If you are working with Daily bars (applies to other bar lengths as well, other than pure Ticks), the calculations are done based on the Close of the bar. A big gap or a big bar can easily jump across two and sometimes three SD's (using 20bar BB) all at once. This is usually at the beginning of a trend, ie "wave 1", rather than after a pullback.
In my opinion, those extreme excursions are a reason to take a profit exit and/or radically tighten stops of an existing trade, rather than using it as an entry signal. Reason ... after a huge excursion, movement might "coast" positive a bar or two, but *usually* flattens out or pulls back. I've written trade plans to utilize this effectively btw.
And, since it's rare to be able to write a profitable strategy to "catch the turn" that initiates wave 1 after a downtrend, I believe trades that can use this logic are typically entered after a consolidation or squeeze, with a moderate breakout.

I agree with Jim. Big excursions are caused by news. Most likely, the price will pull back or at best stabilize at the new level. Not a real breakout most of the time, but it is the time to cash the check.
