I tried to familiarize myself with the general idea of cloud computing but there does not seem to be a set definition of what that means even among experts. However, I did run across a paragraph linking cloud computing to smartphones/smartphone services. Quoting: "Address books, contact lists, photos, text messages, call logs and GPS information all take advantage of the accessibility and availability of cloud resources. With high-speed communications networks, everything phone-related will reside in the cloud." Those who are experts feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it does not seem far-fetched to infer that a future version of Omnivest could conceivably be run from a smartphone using cloud resources. At least in my case, on the road, even if I had to pay more for "roaming" internet on occasion, I could take advantage of Omnivest in either full auto or semi-auto mode. My choice. From just about anywhere in the US. I do use an aircard for internet now on my laptop. But service can be non-existent/too slow to be useful. Maybe internet via a smartphone would be a little more reliable. Seems like it should not make a difference but somehow internet through a smartphone vs. an aircard seems faster and more reliable to me. Cell booster antennas would likely help. In any case, if Omnivest can eventually be run with a smartphone, using cloud resources, that would surely help those of us constantly on the road. But in the meantime, I think I've found a simple enough Macro program that will launch the Omnivest site, login, connect to MB Trading and logout on a schedule(MOO/MOC). That, combined with my satellite internet at home, just might work for unattended automatic trading. I shall experiment. Also looking forward to that Realtime version of Omnivest mentioned in a brochure. Imagine if my home computer could one day trade Realtime Omnivest automatically while I'm out driving? Wow.
