I'm no expert - but I have experienced many problems with MS Updates over the years. Consequently, I keep multiple mirror image backups of my C: drive dating back several weeks. Recently I upgraded to Acronis True Image 2020 backup software and backup to a USB hard drive. It appears very reliable. I have totally restored my hard drive a few times recently with no issues.
