1) If I am running AutoTrade, do I trade whichever portfolio is selected in the Portfolio Toolbars Broker drop down? So if I have 3 paper accounts and one GXTrader account, whichever I have selected is the one AutoTrader uses? 2) Max Margin defaults to 50%. That seems like an odd default. What should I use to mimic a Garwood IB account that allows 200% margin for overnight positions? What should I use for my real Garwood account? 3) When AutoTrade-ing, does the Require Order Confirmation checkbox in Portfolio | Add Account matter? Do I ever need to confirm trades when AutoTrade is on? 4) in the AutoTrade dialog, I have ATM ARM5 selected for Method. So that specifies my trade sizing? I know ATM ARM5 is an XML file that describes an ATM configuration. But what I'm missing is what I would put in that field if I was AutoTrading a non-ATM profile. Is Method only for ATM? Would I use the Trade Size radio button for all non-ATM AutoTrade sessions? 5) If I want to see what AutoTrade is going to do tomorrow AM, do I wait until after AutoTrade runs the ToDo processing, then disable AutoTrade, open the Portfolio dialog and go to the Open Orders tab? 6) If I requested that AutoTrade place orders at the Broker When run ToDo list completes, I would expect that orders in the Open Orders tab would match the pending MOO orders at my broker. If I cancel an order in the Portfolio | Open Orders tab, will the order be closed at the Broker? 7) If I re-enable AutoTrade after the ToDo list has processed, but before the orders are sent to the broker, (assuming the When Run ToDo List Completes is not checked and a different time is specified for Submit Orders At). will AutoTrade pick up where it left off without a hitch? 8) What should I be doing (and how often) to ensure AutoTrade and my actual Garwood account remain in sync? Do I need to watch for orphaned trades? Rejected trades? Etc. Sorry for all the questions. The devil is always in the details... Thanks Keith

Hi, Keith. I've been using AT with GXtrader since June, ATS since it was introduced with OT2018 in December, and started running an ATM method last week. So, here are some answers to your questions based on my experience. 1) AT submits orders to whatever account is selected when it is time to submit orders. AT does not submit trades to both the Paper and GXTrader accounts. It will submit orders to the account selected when you enabled AT and/or when it submits orders. I don't know what would happen if you changed accounts between ToDo analysis and when orders are scheduled to be submitted. My guess is that at order submission time, whatever account is selected is queried for current positions and available funds, then AT calculates what orders to submit, and send them. 2) Yep, 50% is an odd default. If you want 200% margin, then set 200% margin. I set 200% margin. 3) The "Require Order Confirmation" setting has no affect on AT. You do not need to confirm AT orders. 4) If you have an ATM method selcted, e.g. the "ATM ARM5" method, then the method will control AT's trade sizing and which strategies are active. OR, if you have TradeSize selected, then that controls the TradeSize and (I believe) the PortSim configuration controls which Strategy or Strategies are active. 5) As noted in 1) above, AT will submit orders to one account, e.g., GXTrader, or Paper, or ... It will submit the orders at the time configured, or at completion of ToDo Analysis, depending on the configuration. I don't know what happens if you change the Broker/Account between completion of ToDo Analysis, and order submission. If I recall correctly, submitted-pending entry orders will appear as unfilled triangles in the Position column of the Focus List (assuming you've configured the FL to include that column). To monitor your trades, you could use GXTrader TradeAway (https://gxtrader.com/TradeawayIB/index.aspx) or IB TWS (Trader WorkStation https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=14099) to view positions and pending orders. I prefer and use TWS. I don't know of any place to view pending AT order prior to orders being submitted. My impression/understanding is that this is determined at the moment that orders are to be submitted, although it's possible that it happens at completion of ToDo Analysis. NOTE: I have not experimented with changing the Broker/Account between ToDo Analysis completion and order submission. I have AT configured to run analysis 20 minutes prior to market close. DURING ToDo Analysis, exit orders are submitted as existing in-trade symbols are analyzed. At completion of analysis, MOC entry orders are submitted. (NOTE: GarWoodSecurities/InteractiveBrokers requires MOC orders to be submitted 15 minutes prior to market close, so need to start analysis with enough time to complete for that deadline). Then AT is configured to "Update Portfolio" after final market close data is available. I occasionally get another exit MKT order submitted by AT at that time. 6) I believe that at order submission time, AT queries the selected Broker/Account and obtains position and available funds information, calculates what trades to place, and submits the orders. Until the order is executed, I believe you can cancel it by right clicking the trade chevron on the right side of the chart, and selecting "Cancel Order." 7) I don't know. I have not interrupted AT between ToDo Analysis and order submission. I have stopped AT after order submission, but before "Update Portfolio" has run, and if AT is re-enabled, then "Update Portfolio" runs as scheduled. 8) AT sends email notifications of trades that fail. For example, if AT has an excess of new potential trades, but not enough funds to take those trades, those excess trades will fail. But also, I have seen some occasional entry trade failures which I can't see any reason for them to have failed. Barry and I have exchanged emails discussing the errors. No conclusions yet. And, up to this point in time, there has been quite a bit of AT, ATS and ATM activity, so I'm monitoring closely. Orphan trades: Good question. I am daily monitoring AT (for now). I have intervened a few times, and some "orphaned" trades have occurred but possibly (probably?) due to my messing with things. CONCLUSION: I really like AT. But, as Ed advised, I'd recommend starting with Paper trading and make sure it is doing what you expect. [Edited by SteveL on 2/19/2018 1:55 AM]

Thanks Steve! So I've been AutoTrading a Paper account for a couple weeks. I've checked on the weekends and found open trades and trade history in the portfolio manager. And I've seen profits! yay! What I haven't seen is any daily confirmation emails from OT telling me what trades are being taken. I have the email set up and tested. but have never recieved one beyond that. Is there something I need to do? As soon as I can close some trades and free up equity to xfer to Gar Wood I'll start trading live with a small account. I know I get daily recaps emailed from GXTrader (Gar Wppd)... Cheers Keith

Hi, Keith. You are correct. There is no daily confirmation email from OT telling what trades are taken. The emails you will get inform you of: 1) completion of the ToDo List processing 2) completion of orders sent (but not any specifics about what orders were successfully submitted) 3) specifics about trades that were signaled but not taken 4) error/failure events (things sometimes happen). And you are also correct that GarWoodSecurities will send you a trade activity summary each day. [Edited by SteveL on 2/27/2018 10:38 PM]

I have also been paper-trading the ATMARM5 profile for the last 10 days and I can report that it is also showing a nice profit. Jeff

Hi Jeff, Did you create your own ATMARM5 profile and ATM method or is this posted on Nirvana Club web site? If you created your own ATM method could you share it with us? Thanks Barry Meyer

I am simply using the method from the Nirvana Club. It trades both long and short in all three market conditions. The paper-trading results continue to look excellent. However, to be fair, it has only been running since Feb 26. Once I have more data, I'll provide an update. At the moment, my plan is to simply continue paper-trading. I'm nervous about using Auto-Trade from my own computer. But, I think that once ATM is activated in OmniVest, I'll probably want to start trading a live account right away. Jeff

Update: As of today, the ATM-ARM5 portfolio is in the red. The market timing has simply been off in this choppy market. A number of short positions were closed at a loss right before another market drop. The hit rate has dropped from 78% to 52%. Of course, since I've only been paper-trading this portfolio for about a month, it is certainly too soon to draw any conclusions. Jeff

Since I see that the paper-autotrading for the macro-micro method has been in the red recently (as reported on another thread), I think this may be a good time for an update of my paper-autotrading of the ATM-ARM3 profile. The account (that started at $50,000) is nearly back to break even. Jeff [Edited by Jeff Mishlove on 5/10/2018 12:32 PM] ![]()
