Hello good people,

Before we get into this...I want to state upfront that this thread is exclusively for the "geeks" out there who run our software. Our current system requirements are sufficient to run our programs for most clients:

Operating System: Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10
Computer 2.0 GHz or Higher
Memory 2 GB of Ram
Graphics Card 128 MB of RAM
Graphics Driver Direct X *9.0c
*Included in the Installation
Internet Connection Broadband (Cable\DSL)

What I am curious about are those guys who know what's under the hood. Particularly those who like playing a mean game of "Simon Says". Let's not belabor the ideal cache amount built into the CPU, or what interface our SSD is connecting with the MB to obtain ideal read/write values, etc. That's not what this thread is for. We'll do that somewhere else.

If you want to participate, I need some benchmarks and we can collectively figure out what the best hardware configuration is available to optimally run OmniTrader.

1.) Launch Internet Explorer (not Google Chrome..we need to use Silverlight...) and go to http://silver.urih.com/
Once you get here, click the "Benchmark" button. Don't worry about the Extreme Test or Stress Test....just stick with the Benchmark option.

Grab a screenshot of the final score (see attached)

2.) Check out your system properties and WEI scores.

Grab a screenshot for each (see attached)

3.) Download the "Benchmark.otp" file and place it in your OmniTrader profiles folder. The default path for this is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nirvana\OT2015\Profiles

4.) Launch OmniTrader and click on File -> Open -> select the "Benchmark" profile. Don't change ANY settings. Just run your To-Do List. Close OmniTrader and then go back to the root OT2015 folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Nirvana\OT2015) and locate the OT.log file. Open it up and find the entry for "Running the ToDo list:"

Grab a screenshot from that too (see attached).

Post your stuff as I have done.

May the best one win,

Thad

Hi, Thad.
I'm not sure what you will do with the data. But there can be wide variance in results on the same machine unless there are constraints placed on what other activities the PC is doing. I have a variety of background processes that at times will consume a variety of resources, including incremental backups to local and cloud-based servers, anti-virus scans, etc. that could affect the results of any testing.

For example, I had a process running which was consuming 50% of the CPU and some network and disk bandwidth when I ran your tests the first time. I repeated the Benchmark ToDoList test 3 times, and each time the results improved. I ran it a 4th time after deleting the Benchmark.otp and Benchmark.otr files, and restoring your original file.

Below are the various results showing the consequences of having other things running on the PC.

If you are running Windows 8 or above, the Windows Experience Index is not provided by Windows. But there are 3rd party tools which purport to produce the WEI, e.g. Winaero WEI Tool:

PC Info:

First online benchmark results done while running another high CPU usage program:

1st Benchmark ToDoList results:

2nd Benchmark ToDoList results:

3rd Benchmark ToDoList results:

2nd Online Benchmark after terminating the process that was consuming 50% of the CPU and some other resources:

and finally:

4th Benchmark ToDoList results, after restoring the original Benchmark.otp and deleting the Benchmark.otr prior to retesting:

You guys are great!!! Thank you both for uploading your results so quickly!

Steve, you are exactly right...I should have mentioned the other processes that may be running in windows that could limit the performance of OT. Good shot. Also, using the WEI alternative app on Win8 & later - thank you!!! After I posted this last night (on my ancient Win7 box) I realized that I probably left a few things out. Good catch overall.

I've been asked many times on the phone by our clients, "what computer should I get to run OmniTrader?" My usual response has been to get the fastest clock speed processor that they are willing to purchase and a SSD. Those have consistently proven to be the deciding factors for an acceptable performance experience with OT. With the additional features we continue to add into the software, I think we need to redefine what our system requirements really are. In particular the recommended requirements.

That's where you folks are coming up with the answer.

Thank you again for your participation and I look forward to finding out more results!

Thad
