Is here a way to tell OT and Autotrader, when using ATM, a MINIMUM trade size? I have a few trades of 1, 2 or 3 shares, lower priced stocks too ($30-$70 per share). They are all all winners in the sense they went the right direction, but the $2.00 commission from IB makes them losers due to the ridiculously small trade size.
If there currently isn't a way there NEEDS to be one added

Hi Bill. As you know in the Autotrade settings there is a "Round To" setting. Not sure that would take a 1 share to some higher amount. I too have experienced some of those small trade sizes but with prices of a few bucks to Buffet sizes share numbers don't work.
There is the Trade Size in % also. I tried playing with minimum trade sizes and screwed up the ATM allocation. Mark pointed that out and I had overlooked that.
Looks like we need some testing on this.

Hi Bill,
Have you tried the Trade Parameters tab in the Portfolio Simulation Settings? There is a setting for Min Allocation% and another for Min Shares and Min Amount. Between those 3 (or maybe all 3 configured together), you might be able to eliminate these low trades that are consumed by commission.
Maybe something like:
Min Allocation% = 1 (with an account size of $100,000)
Min Shares = 10
Min Amount = $1,000
Just guessing here. I'm thinking that since ATM relies heavily on Port Sim, these settings are also controlling some of the behavior.
With the above, I'd probably say you should have the Increase Trade Size checked on the Account Settings Tab for the use of leverage. But maybe that won't matter.
I haven't tested it, but it is worth a try.
Thanks,
Jeff

FWIW that is how I screwed up my allocation. I was testing with a small portfolio and by setting a minimum trade size it basically ran out of money to trade.
It seems you have to put some planning into matching a minimum trade size with account size and allocation.
For you guys with beau coup bucks no problem though <:)

I just ran a quick test activating only the Min Amount @ $1,000. It seemed to work in Port Sim. My Final Equity went up slightly as did the MDD. They were very marginal changes.
But if you trade a small account that might be worth testing further. This way you won't be consuming your account with a high priced stock just to hit a minimum number of shares while prevent a few dollars of surplus cash from buying a few shares where profit will get consumed by commission.

I agree $ amount is probably the best way to go.
My question is if you Autotrade does it use the settings from Port Sim? I have not seen any documentation on that.

What Jeff said, "the Trade Parameters tab in the Portfolio Simulation Settings". Those settings are used with AutoTrade when trading a Port Sim method.

Thanks.
I have started an "ATM Nuts and Bolts" section in my Onenote file to supplement the grey matter.

Awesome. Thanks everyone! For some reason I didn't realize the regular port sim settings effected ATM
