The "Setting Data Source" topic in Help File says: "The Set Data Source option changes a symbol from User Data back to Easy Data. You can reset a single symbol or many symbols............Select Set Data Source from the right-click menu. Select the appropriate data source from the menu. OmniTrader will reset these symbols to the data source you select. " I have a real-time profile; and I am seeing commands as explained in the Help-file. However; since Real-time profiles can use EasyData ONLY; what is the use of this feature in Real-time profiles? 1. I think this feature might have relevence in EOD and TEST Profiles only and in Real-time profiles this command might be disabled. Am I right? 2. Please guide about the benefits that we can get from this feature in EOD and TEST Profiles. With Regards Sanjiv Bansal [Edited by Sanjiv Bansal on 5/23/2012 1:44 AM]

This feature is more of a support tool to be used if you are switching between data sources. It is not disabled in realtime; however, I'm not aware of any practical uses for it with Test profiles.

Thanks for your reply; I seem to not having been able to present correctly what I meant. I meant: 1. I think this feature might have relevence in EOD and TEST Profiles only and in Real-time profiles "It might be better if this command is disabled; so that there is no confusion". Am I right? Oh I see. Well it is possible to have a symbol pointing to an EOD source even while in realtime, in which case you might want to use the feature to set it to your realtime source.

Hi Barry I believe Sanjiv has been trying hard to get some RT data into a Test Profile using a csv file or some other means. As I recall from another thread, he has data for a non-US exchange that he wants to port into an intraday TP for SW use. But as I recall that thread has not been answered. Could you please help? This would be valuable to many other people. The question is: What are the steps necessary to import CSV intraday historical data into a Test Profile? And What specific format must the CSV data be in? Thanks [Edited by Jim Dean on 5/23/2012 12:16 PM]

That information is covered under Help -> Contents -> Analysis -> Test Profile. The only thing I'm aware of that the documentation is lacking is the added ability to use OmniData/eSignal/IQ realtime data in Test Profiles.

Thanks, Barry. The Help file does not seem to indicate what the NAME of the file needs to be, in the "Rules for Importing Data Files" ... such that the "Using the Test Profile" instructions will work properly ... ie that it will find and properly associate a given Symbol name with the data in each csv file. It also does not indicate what limitations there might be on symbol names ... can they be anything we want, or must it be a symbol that is listed somewhere in the OT symbol directories? Also ... is it possible to load in SOME data automatically, using the new "ToDo" method ... and then add other symbols by loading them using the CSV method? Finally, is it possible to load some data from one intraday feed source, such as Odata, and in the same Test Profile load in additional data from a different feed source, such as ESig? Thanks for your help. PS please do request that this part of Help get updated with the info you have mentioned. PPS ... and, I still don't have an answer to the question I've asked many times over the past year or two ... HOW MANY BARS can be loaded, max, into the Test Profile. Cose told me there was a limit, set by the database engine, but he never got back to me to tell me what the limit was, in terms of numbers of bars. Also, there used to be some kind hard-coded of "block" that did not allow OT to work with more than a certain number of bars (Data Periods showed error messages) ... that needs to be explained so that we know how to work with it. Please help. Thanks

Hello Mr. Cohen and Mr. Dean, Thanks for following up the CSV import problem in Intraday TEST Profile. I understand I have approached the thing as explained in : Help -> Contents -> Analysis -> Test Profile. However, I am getting error messages as submitted in my post http://www.omnitrader.com/currentclients/proforum/thread-view.asp?threadid=3739 I have tried with making sure that the name of the csv file is such that it exists in OmniTrader Symbol Database. Still no luck. The format of data in the file is same as explained in help file. The same data file imports fine if I import it via: File»Import»Data File. Hence the format of data in the file seems to be right. Further, I have attached a Sample CSV file as well as image of the error message in the relevent thread. It will be nice if you please manage to look into the matter and have some solution provided. With Regards Sanjiv Bansal PS: Answer of Mr. Olson in the relevent thead suggests that Nirvana is working towards improving Test Profiles. Further, your recommendation about using SW with Test profiles if user is going to use intraday timeframes, in the thread http://www.omnitrader.com/currentclients/proforum/thread-view.asp?threadid=3741 gives impression that Nirvana is finding Test profiles useful in mainstream testing also. It is just that CSV files are not being imported as described in the help file.

I think you misunderstood my question re names Please tell me what to name the CSV file so that OT knows what symbol it is associated with. The help content does not give ANY examples of the file names, nor does it explain how OT knows how to connect them to a symbol name. At least - it did not seem clear to me. Thanks for being patient with my never-ending quest for details!

Barry - This problem re CSV implementation is as yet unresolved and the user is still unable to make OT work. Please continue to work with him. |
