Tired of dealing with these continuous errors. Trying to test against R1.0

Going on for over a week. made new profiles - FAIL. update to PR2I - FAIL.

All my testing, etc at a total standstill

So I changed from R1.0 in OS to SP+NAS100. Errors went away. Why can't I use my R1.0 list anymore? That's broken. Must be fixed.

Oh, when you exit OS here's what happens every time - the FL fills the whole screen. I posted this issue before, to which others said they also had this problem. here is screenshot

Now MOST of my strategies that used to generate signals - enough to train GA/NNs on - don't generate signals anymore. WTH?

To be clear these include many strats with NO AI. Generated signals before but not anymore. Nirvana built strats NSP-31/35/41, T21, XLS-19, VBX-3, UIS, Guppy Power, more - w/ no AI - included. No signals on SP+NAS 100 over the last few years? Yea, no - OT BROKEN.Arggggghhhhh

I have mentioned this many times - OT breaks itself. A lot. It is not resilient at all. It gets corrupted easily. The error messages tell you nothing that you can use to help diagnose it. The core engine needs to be rewritten - probably in a newer language - simplified (it has sooo many add-ons) and made more bulletproof to corrupting itself.

Yes I am frustrated. Have not been able to make any progress for over a week bc of this.

I feel your pain Bill … to such an extent that I decided to uninstall all Nirvana products last week, including deleting all sub-directories related to OT & OS and do a fresh install of everything, including plugins yet the only thing constant in my experience are the errors … pardon the play on the subject line

There's this wonderful little dialogue that crops up after there's been a bug detected in OT asking whether you want to submit the OT.log. I always say yes in the hope that I will be helping to improve the products but alas I am yet to receive a single followup to the 100s or 1000s of OT dumps I've submitted in ±20 years, which makes me wonder, have you ever submitted said OT dump to Nirvana and received a followup? What is the point?

Anyway, I don't see this going anywhere but I did want to let you know that you're not alone …

Have a great weekend trying to debug OT 😵

No guarantees here (and you may know this and have already tried it), but there are 3 things you can safely delete that might help…???

I delete these on a regular basis.

First, shut down OT, then…

In the OT2022/VBA/Temp folder select all and delete everything.




In the OT2022/Results folder select your profile and delete it. (this doesn’t delete the profile, just some data – but you can save a copy of your profile someplace if want a backup)




In the OT2022/Database folder select your SymData.otd and SymDataEOD.otd files and delete them.




It’s worth a shot… none of these deletions have ever hurt anything for me.

Yup - done it several times. No help. Tried less symbols, less strats, new profile now new OT build.

Wait - deleting Symdata and Symdata eod are new to me. I'll try it. Thanks!

I also submit those logs. It can't hurt, but like you I wonder if they are actually looked at or used.

I have had Barry on his own (while working with me on an issue) check those submissions from me

2 different OT logs

2 of my OT builds are now useless with these same errors

So I spent 4 hours uninstalling/reinstalling OT22 on 2 machines.

The errors stopped and was able to make some progress.

Can't get ANY signals on NSP-31/35/41 or Guppy power. I am sure other Nirvana products as well, but I am messing with these. I WAS getting plenty of signals from all these strats last week - in fact I trained GAs/NNs on them. Now NOTHING so it's still broke.

I want to say the issues cropped up right around PR2H

VERY frustrating when you can't use what you paid for, go thru hours starting over, and it still doesn't work

I'm in the same boat and was just about to make a post venting my frustration when I spotted this one.
I have sent reports for over 15 years and nothing gets responded to.
The error messages mean nothing but sometimes I am lucky enough to find the issue and fix it myself.
I have just purchased a high end laptop to take advantage of ARM6 using multiple cores (apparently) and it is totally useless.
I have lost count of the number of times that I have uninstalled / re-installed OT to fix these bloody issues, set up all my strats etc etc etc from scratch again and then some other error comes along.

Because of the data looking ahead by one day bug for us here in the Southern Hemisphere for some symbols (why???? - no idea. The data end date is today but the chart date is tomorrow???) I deleted everything from the 'Easy Data' table and added back in my ASX data.
That fixed the peek ahead issue but now getting bombarded by some meaningless Crypto error which raises it head on EVERY symbol test, regardless if I create new Profiles.

Had a gutfull to be honest. I have spent many thousands of dollars over the years on OT, VT, updates, plugins, club membership etc.

Nirvana needs to start focusing on a modern update of their programs, instead of pumping out new plugins.

I do want to add I love OT when it's working - kinda like an italian sports car. When running it's awesome, but it breaks itself A LOT.

Another thing - to a person the folks at Nirvana are amazing. They really do care and are the kinda folks I would like to hang out with.

But the core OT engine is running at 5000 RPM and breaks. Old language, too many addons, no resiliency. Error codes useless.

Same here; never heard back, EVER. Not a single peep.

Even worse: After clicking "submit", I am frozen until forced to click on their "thank you". Just another kick in the shins . . .

Tools-->Options-->General-->Product Options--> deselected to "submit errors to Nirvana Systems"

Been wanting to escape this nonsense. Now I am done.

Bill,

A customer pointed me to this thread, which is good. But sorry you're hitting these issues. OT is a very complex piece of software with many things users can do - especially power users - that can take it into a mode that wasn't tested here.

Normally our Support is very responsive if they know a customer is struggling like this (at least that's what I hear most often). Honestly, I don't see problems like this in OT or VT - but as I say, there are an infinite number of paths in the software.

I am copying this to Support so they can assist. they *always* need your files, etc. to reproduce what's going on. Since you said you re-installed and everything worked except for a plugin, that could be a clue as to what is going on.

As far as the "Submit Log" thing goes, that was added a very long time ago so we would have logs to compare error cases between users. There are way too many users to be able to answer every one of these. But please continue submitting them. They are helpful at times.

Thanks for hanging in there. Let me see what I can do here.

Aztrix, I looked up the recent error you submitted. I'm not sure the exact cause of it, but I think it may have been related to something in the profile or Port Sim method you were working with. Since you reinstalled everything it's probably too late to try to figure out what happened, but please let us know if you see it or another error again.

Like submitting an error report to Microsoft on a Windows error, we do not respond to them either. We use them in different situations like right now for example you mentioned you submitted an error log & I was able to go look at it. We can also look at log history & see how often a certain error is occurring, when it began, & other helpful information. Hopefully you continue to submit them, cause they do help, but we don't have enough staff to respond to them. But the typical use is so that when you do get an error & ask about it in email, chat, or forum we are then able to go look it up & save the time needed to ask you for the log & wait for it.

RonO, I'm guessing you're using the Australia database set under Edit -> Exchange Information. If not, let me know before proceeding. You should've had a prompt at some point recently on startup showing this. If you said no it would result in those errors.



Here's a way you can fix it. Close OT.

Browse to ...\Nirvana\data\AU & rename Symbols32.mdb to Symbols32.mdb.old.

Then browse to ...\Nirvana\OT2022\SymbolsDB\AU. Copy the Symbols32.mdb file there. Go back to ...\Nirvana\data\AU & paste the copied database there.

Thank you Barry.

To be honest I can not remember if I have seen that pop-up, or clicked yes. I have uninstalled / re-installed OT and all my plug-ins etc so many times I've lost track of what I've clicked.
This advice does appear to have resolved my current issues for the time being and OT is happy again.

I may have come across a bit harsh - certainly did not mean to as I love Ed's vision and all the staff at Nirvana seem to be one big happy family.

I guess getting thousands of error messages over the years does tend to make one somewhat cranky.

I understand, Ron. It's like Ed stated above, "OT is a very complex piece of software with many things users can do. There are an infinite number of paths in the software." Additionally we're constantly fixing & improving things, so issues can happen. Reinstalling can help sometimes, but I understand the time investment that can have, so if you get an error please post in the forum or contact our support team & hopefully we can figure it out & save you the hassle.

Soooooo even after reinstalling I had one build that was broke. Angela was able to figure it out - and I don't know how!

I use the VIX in GAs and some filter blocks. Symbol $VIX. I use omnidata so all the data is downloaded in one big batch file, yet for some reason there was no data associated with $VIX so any filter block, etc referencing it will fail.

Weird. Even she felt it was very weird and couldn't explain it.

Sooooooo I think I am GTG.
